Subject: Kya Sands Informal Settlement
Digest extract
Good day
Your e-mail dated 9 May 2007 refers.
A project plan has been developed for the relocation of the Kya Sands
Informal Settlement by the Department Development Planning and Urban
Management of the City of Johannesburg. This plan requires consequential
implementation of strategic objectives. This entails the following
actions
in compliance with our Project Management Workflow Document:
* Submission of a report to the Mayoral Committee on 18 January 2007 to
obtain a mandate for this proposal
* A Public Meeting held on 22 March 2007 with affected stakeholders in
the
immediate vacinity of the Kya Sands Informal Settlement , where the
City's
proposal for possible relocation was presented
* Discussions with JUDAH Ministries who is the Lessee of Portion 51,
Houtkoppen 193IQ was entered into on 11 April 2007. At this meeting they
very stongly supported the City's proposal
* A meeting was also held with representatives of the Gauteng Province -
Land Management Department on 17 April 2007. At this meeting the
Gauteng
Province (landowners of Portion 51) indicated their willingness to
facilitate the donation of Portion 51, Houtkoppen 193IQ from the
Province
to the City of Johannesburg on receipt of a formal request from the City
of Johannesburg
*On 18 May 2007 the Johannesburg Property Company was requested to make
a
formal request for donation of this parcel of land to the City of
Johannesburg
Once Council approves the donation of the said parcel of land, Regional
Professional Teams will be appointed to conduct township establishment
processes, as well as develop lay out plans to determine the most
appropriate typhology for this development. Only at this stage would
this
administration be in a position to again present Council's proposals,
and
therefore it would be premature to attend public meetings at this
junction.
You have been placed on the mailing list of this Administration and will
therefore be invited to future consultation processes.
Regards
